Roger Lownsborough set up his first kitchen business 40 years ago. 26 years later he retired. Recently he decided to buy a new kitchen – this is his story…
“I’ve supplied a few kitchens in my time, so who would I go to when I wanted a new kitchen ?
To be fair there was quite a choice for me, as of course there is for everybody, except that I was also exposed to past loyalties. In the end I decided to speak to Dawn Rayner who had worked closely with me for many years, and who had most recently taken the decision to partner her daughter in law, Mary Major, in a new kitchen venture, Designer Kitchen Direct, DKD, on Junction Road, in Sheffield.
Mary Major is a qualified designer, and I purposely resisted the temptation to interfere with what she suggested. I dare say there was a little anxiety on both parts to begin with, but I am pleased to say that Mary designed the kitchen, and made her recommendations in a completely independent and professional manner which actually made it easier for me to stick my oar in where I felt it was needed. More on budget than design, as it turned out!
I have always stuck to quality of product, and in that regard DKD did not disappoint in any way at all. The product is excellent and the optional internal fittings are of a superb standard. It was an added bonus that the fitter allocated to the job had also worked for me previously, and the tiler was also a good lad to have on site and again I am pleased to report his work as first class.
It’s a bit boring not to be able to take a swipe at anything, but clearly time has moved on and certainly in this case kitchen design and the installation process which can occasionally be a lengthy nightmare, has moved on as well. Using the latest hi tech equipment and with lessons learned from the past, delivering a first class service is not just an option. Everyone, including the granite suppliers, and the delivery drivers who were involved were nothing less than polite and helpful.
