Bespoke Fitted Bedrooms
Your Personal Sanctuary of Calm
Your bedroom should be the most relaxing room in your home. It is a sanctuary where you begin and end your day, and the key to that tranquillity is an environment free from clutter. A truly bespoke fitted bedroom does more than just look beautiful. It transforms the way you live by maximizing every inch of space to create a sense of order and calm.
At Designer Kitchen Direct, we apply the same exacting standards of joinery to our bedroom furniture as we do to our kitchens. We design and build fitted wardrobes that blend seamlessly with your architecture, giving you the luxury of a boutique hotel in the comfort of your own home.
Relaxing. Tailored. Serene.
Why Choose Fitted Wardrobes?
Freestanding wardrobes leave gaps. They leave dust traps above the top, wasted space at the sides, and often fail to utilize the full depth of the room. A bespoke fitted wardrobe is designed to fit your room like a glove. It spans from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, giving you up to 40% more storage space than standard furniture.
This is particularly vital in British homes where bedrooms often have quirks. Whether you have sloping ceilings, chimney breasts, or awkward alcoves, our bespoke manufacturing process allows us to build around these contours perfectly. We create a seamless finish that looks like it was built with the house.
A Place for Everything
The true beauty of a DKD bedroom lies behind the doors. Because we build every cabinet to order, we are not fazed by the quirks of British homes. We can build around chimney breasts, creating seamless storage in the alcoves, or contour wardrobes to fit perfectly over stairwell bulkheads and sloping ceilings.
We don’t just give you a rail and a shelf. We design storage solutions around your wardrobe. Do you have a large shoe collection? We can build angled shoe racks. Need space for long evening dresses? We can install double-height hanging rails, internal drawers, and integrated lighting. By giving everything a designated place, we help you keep your bedroom permanently tidy and peaceful.
Styles to Suit Your Sleep
Your bedroom furniture should reflect your personal taste. We offer a vast range of styles to complement your interior decor. You might choose a classic Painted Shaker finish for a soft, traditional feel that matches your cottage windows.
Alternatively, for a modern apartment, you might prefer Sleek Sliding Doors with mirrored panels to bounce light around the room and make the space feel larger. From rich woodgrains to calming neutrals and bold feature colours, we offer the same extensive palette as our kitchen ranges, ensuring your bedroom furniture is as unique as you are.
British Craftsmanship, Built to Last
Many high-street bedroom companies use thin materials and flimsy back panels that bow over time. We refuse to lower our standards. We build our bedroom cabinetry in our County Durham workshop using 18mm high-density wood panels.
This creates a rock-solid foundation for the furniture. We use heavy-duty hinges and runners, ensuring your wardrobe doors stay aligned and your drawers carry weight without sagging. By manufacturing in our own UK factories, we cut out the middleman, giving you a truly unique, designer-fitted bedroom at an exceptional price point.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bespoke Bedrooms
Can you fit wardrobes in rooms with sloping ceilings?
Yes, this is our specialty. Loft conversions and eaves are notoriously difficult to furnish with standard furniture. We custom-manufacture the doors and cabinets to match the exact angle of your ceiling. We “scribe” the panels on-site to ensure a millimetre-perfect fit against the slope, maximizing storage in space that would otherwise be wasted.
Are sliding doors better than hinged doors?
It depends on the room. Sliding doors are the perfect solution for smaller rooms or narrow corridors because they don’t require clearance space to open. Hinged doors are more traditional and allow you to see the entire contents of the wardrobe at once. We can recommend the best option during your design consultation.
Can you build walk-in wardrobes?
Yes. If you have a spare room or a large master suite, we can design a dedicated dressing room. We can build open shelving systems (without doors) for a boutique feel, islands with glass-topped jewellery drawers, and full-length mirror zones.
How long does installation take?
Bedroom installation is generally quicker than a kitchen. For a standard run of fitted wardrobes, our team can often complete the installation in 1 to 2 days. We ensure all carpets and flooring are protected during the work, and we leave the room spotless and ready to use.
Do the wardrobes have backs?
Yes. Unlike some budget competitors who simply attach a frame to the wall and leave your wallpaper exposed inside, we build full cabinet carcasses with solid backs (unless you specifically request otherwise for a walk-in system). This ensures your clothes are protected from cold walls and keeps the interior clean and dust-free.
Can I customise the internal layout?
Absolutely. Because our wardrobes are bespoke, you are not limited to a standard shelf and rail. We can configure the interior exactly how you need it. This includes double-hanging rails to maximize space, internal soft-close drawers for knitwear, and angled racks for shoes.
