The Conway: A Serene Japandi Sanctuary in Sheffield
A minimalist fusion of warm beige tones, handcrafted oak panelling, and bespoke quartz.
Where Scandinavian Function Meets Japanese Soul
Achieving a true Japandi kitchen in Sheffield requires a delicate balance between the functional minimalism of Scandinavia and the warm, organic soul of Japanese design. With The Conway, designer Simon has created a space that prioritises calm over clutter. By pairing the understated elegance of Light Grey cabinetry with the striking, tactile rhythm of oak feature panelling, this kitchen transcends mere utility to become a sanctuary of modern living.
Bathed in the soft glow of natural light, every element of this design is intended to soothe. The clean lines of the 20mm quartz worktops flow seamlessly into the textured wood finishes, creating a palette that is both sophisticated and deeply grounded. This is a kitchen designed for the mindful home—a space for quiet morning coffees and evening conversations, where the beauty of the materials speaks louder than the noise of everyday life.

Precision Minimalist Engineering
To deliver the seamless aesthetic required for this bespoke Japandi kitchen in Sheffield, we utilised materials that celebrate texture and tonal harmony. The layout centres around a social island featuring handcrafted oak slatted panelling, providing a natural vertical rhythm that contrasts beautifully with the smooth 20mm bespoke quartz surfaces.
The Conway cabinetry is finished in a sophisticated Light Grey, chosen for its versatility and ability to provide a clean, contemporary backdrop to the organic timber elements. Every detail has been meticulously considered, from the integrated storage solutions to the precision-fitted quartz edges that define the cooking zone. This project is a testament to the “less is more” philosophy, where high-performance durability meets the effortless elegance of British craftsmanship.
A Curated Selection of Excellence
To complement our bespoke cabinetry, we curated a suite of world-class brands that share our commitment to precision engineering and timeless aesthetic.
The Vision Behind the Project
Meet Simon, Designer at DKD Sheffield
The goal with the Conway was to create a sanctuary of ‘warm minimalism.’ By blending the soft, understated tones of the Light Grey cabinetry with the tactile, rhythmic texture of the handcrafted oak panelling, we’ve achieved a kitchen that feels both modern and deeply grounded. Seeing the natural light play off the quartz surfaces against that timber backdrop—it’s exactly the serene Japandi atmosphere we set out to build for this Sheffield home.
