The Montpellier:
A Modern Masterpiece

A tonal masterclass in Moles Breath and Elephant’s Breath with minimalist slab doors and bespoke quartz.

Bespoke Modern Slab Kitchen in Harrogate

Designing a kitchen for a premier Harrogate residence requires a delicate balance between contemporary sharp-edged minimalism and a warm, lived-in sophistication. The Montpellier achieves this through a masterful command of tonal contrast and tactile materiality. By pairing the deep, dramatic presence of the island in Moles Breath with the soft, grounding warmth of the surrounding Elephant’s Breath cabinetry, Gareth has created a kitchen that shifts beautifully with the light throughout the day.

This isn’t just a workspace; it is an atmospheric sanctuary that feels deeply refined, where the handleless slab doors provide a perfectly clean canvas for these iconic, Farrow & Ball-inspired shades to take centre stage. Every element, from the soft-glow industrial pendants to the way the sunlight catches the marble-veined quartz, was curated to reflect the effortless elegance of the Montpellier Quarter—making it the ultimate hub for both quiet morning reflections and high-end evening entertaining in the heart of North Yorkshire.

Bespoke Engineering & Seamless Functionality

From a technical perspective, The Montpellier is a showcase of precision engineering and bespoke internal craftsmanship. The 20mm quartz worktops were selected for their slimline, low-profile aesthetic, providing a sleek modern edge that seamlessly integrates with the seamless slab door design. The cabinetry hides a wealth of functional luxury, including a fully integrated internal pantry featuring light oak internal carcasses, integrated microwave housing, and motion-sensor LED strip lighting for effortless accessibility.

The hardware is equally considered, with knurled bronze handles providing a tactile, high-contrast detail against the matte-painted surfaces. At the heart of the layout is the bespoke breakfast bar feature, a dark-timber architectural hub designed to break up the cool stone surfaces and provide a social focal point. Every detail, including the multi-tonal chevron splashback and the precision-fit undermount sink, has been engineered by Gareth to ensure that the kitchen operates with the same professional-grade performance that its high-end aesthetic suggests.

The Vision Behind the Project

Meet Gareth, Showroom Director at DKD Harrogate

The Montpellier was an exercise in tonal balance. By using finishes colour-matched to Moles Breath and Elephant’s Breath, we created a kitchen that feels incredibly refined without being loud. The slab doors allow those classic Harrogate greys to really breathe, while the bespoke breakfast bar adds that essential social element. It’s a design that feels as sophisticated under the evening pendant lights as it does in the morning glow.
